Former staffers for Rep. Jasmine Crockett, a Democrat from Texas, are speaking out about what they call an abusive and unprofessional work environment, alleging the congresswoman routinely berates employees, shirks her legislative duties, and treats taxpayer-funded staff as personal servants.

According to multiple accounts provided to the New York Post, Crockett’s behavior behind the scenes sharply contrasts with her polished public image. One former aide described her as “rude” and prone to sudden outbursts that created a toxic atmosphere in the office.

“She screamed at staff over the smallest mistakes,” one ex-staffer told the Post. “One time she berated an aide until they cried. That was the breaking point for some of us.”

Several staffers claim Crockett is rarely in her official congressional office, opting instead to work from a luxury apartment near Capitol Hill. “It’s like she’s running a remote influencer business, not representing her district,” one source told the outlet.

Another allegation centers on the use of taxpayer resources for what appear to be personal luxuries. One former aide said Crockett required staff to rent upscale vehicles like Cadillac Escalades to chauffeur her around Washington, D.C. “It was like being an Uber driver for a celebrity, not a public servant,” the staffer said.

The accusations also describe Crockett as dismissive of her own team, including young and minority employees. One former aide recalled being mocked and humiliated before being abruptly fired. “Do you really want to be here? And if not, you can leave!” Crockett allegedly told the aide.

The Atlantic corroborated some of these claims, reporting that Crockett publicly scolded staff for minor mistakes and once insulted food brought to her by saying, “This looks like crap.”

The portrait painted by these accounts is one of a lawmaker more concerned with social media attention than policy work. “She’s all about the viral moments,” one source told the Post. “Constituents and legislation take a back seat.”

The Post’s investigation found that Crockett’s staff turnover rate is significantly higher than average, a sign that the problems may be systemic. Former aides say the environment is “unsustainable” and “mentally draining.”

One staffer described the job as “walking on eggshells” every day. “You never knew when she would snap over something trivial,” they said.

These allegations stand in stark contrast to Crockett’s public persona as a rising Democratic star and outspoken critic of Republicans. In response to the reports, Crockett has gone on the offensive against her accusers.

In a CBS News interview, she called the claims “nonsense” and attacked the New York Post’s credibility. “I don’t have time to read nonsense,” Crockett said. “And you know the New York Post is not a reputable source.”

She attempted to frame the controversy as a sign of her success, quoting Beyoncé: “If they’re not talking about you, then obviously you must not be doing anything.”

Crockett also suggested that the criticism stems from bias against her as a young Black woman in Congress. “Your hate is my motivation,” she said, dismissing the accounts from former staffers as politically motivated attacks.

However, in the same interview, Crockett misstated her time in public office, claiming “five and a half years” of service when records show her tenure amounts to roughly four and a half years.

Her deflection has not silenced critics, who argue that the allegations are specific and credible. Conservative commentators have pointed out that the mainstream media would treat similar reports about a Republican lawmaker far more aggressively.

“This is exactly the kind of double standard we see all the time,” one political analyst told OutKick. “If this were a Republican, every network would be running the story on a loop.”

The story has fueled broader criticism of Democratic leadership’s tolerance for questionable behavior among its own ranks. “Where’s the accountability?” asked one GOP strategist. “If a boss treats their staff like garbage and wastes taxpayer resources, it shouldn’t matter what party they’re in.”

For constituents back in Texas, the revelations raise questions about whether Crockett is truly representing them or using the office as a platform for personal branding.

Several former staffers say they believe she cares more about appearances on MSNBC and viral clips on social media than delivering results for her district.

“Everything was about optics,” one aide told the Post. “The people who elected her weren’t the priority.”

Crockett’s unapologetic response has only deepened the divide. “She didn’t even try to address the substance of the claims,” a former staffer said. “She just dismissed them outright and attacked the source.”

The allegations add to a growing list of internal controversies facing Democrats, particularly those involving treatment of staff and ethical use of office resources.

For now, Crockett shows no sign of stepping back from the spotlight. If anything, her combative stance suggests she will use the controversy to further energize her political brand.

Whether her constituents will reward that approach at the ballot box remains to be seen. For the former staffers speaking out, however, the goal is not political—it’s about telling the truth.

As one of them put it plainly, “People need to know who they’re voting for. The public image and the private reality could not be more different.”
