Congresswoman Asks House Republicans to Investigate Andrew Tate’s Reported Ties to Barron Trump

A Democratic congresswoman has asked the House Republican majority to investigate alleged efforts by social media personalities Andrew and Tristan Tate to ingratiate themselves with the Trump administration — including with the president’s youngest son, Barron Trump.

The Tate brothers were arrested in Miami on Saturday, July 18, as British law enforcement seeks their extradition on charges of rape and sex trafficking, among other alleged crimes.

Andrew, 39, also faces 19 charges “for offences relating to indecent images of a child and extreme pornography,” according to a Crown Prosecution Service statement released on Saturday.

On Thursday, July 23, Arizona Rep. Yassmin Ansari asked House Oversight Committee chair Rep. James Comer to launch a congressional investigation into “the Tate brothers’ coordination and extensive relationships with members of the President’s orbit, including his son, Barron Trump.”

In her letter to Comer, Ansari claimed that the Tate brothers — dual U.S.-British citizens from Chicago — have attempted to ingratiate themselves in the halls of Washington, D.C., after years of fighting off criminal charges in Romania and the United Kingdom for allegations that included rape and sex trafficking.

The Tates have denied all charges and allegations, including the most recent ones in the U.K.

The brothers met with Texas Rep. Wesley Hunt, a Republican, on Capitol Hill in the week prior to their arrest, Ansari noted.

Paolo Zampolli, a special envoy for the president who introduced President Donald Trump and the first lady, hosted the Tates at a party days before their arrest, according to The New York Times.

“Recent reporting and public disclosures raise extremely grave national security, diplomatic and ethical concerns about whether political networks in the President’s orbit, including members of his family, and other public officials leveraged their influence to shield these men,” Ansari wrote.

The Arizona Democrat implored Comer to probe “whether back-channel communications between the Tate brothers, presidential advisors, and members of the First Family such as Barron Trump influence official actions or administration policy.”

First lady Melania Trump’s office, which typically handles media inquiries regarding Barron Trump, did not respond to a request for comment from PEOPLE on Friday, July 24. The White House and Comer also did not respond to requests for comment on Friday.

Barron, 20, was reportedly a fan of Andrew Tate, the influencer who built a following in the so-called “manosphere” community by promoting an embrace of toxic masculinity and open misogyny.

Andrew has said women “belong” to men and “bear some responsibility” for being raped, according to the Times. He also has argued that men are the victims of feminism and that there is a conspiracy to subdue men’s success.

Then-19-year-old Barron and Andrew reportedly spoke over a video call in 2024, according to the Times.

Justin Waller, a mutual friend on the call, told the Times in December 2025 that the president’s youngest son and Andrew spoke about their agreement that the criminal prosecution in Romania was an effort to silence the Tates.

Barron has never publicly commented on the Tates.

The president’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., publicly defended Andrew from the Romanian charges and called him a friend in 2023. Axios reported that Don Jr. and Andrew Tate were messaging as far back as 2016.

The president himself thanked Tristan Tate for his support on Truth Social in September 2023.

According to the Times, Andrew told reporters in 2024, “I’m very close to the Trump family,” adding, “I look forward to, once I am free, being with Donald Trump in person and reminding him that he’s a bulletproof badass.”

Andrew and Tristan were arrested in 2022 and indicted in 2023 in Romania in connection with an investigation looking into human trafficking, rape and forming a criminal gang to sexually exploit women charges. The case was thrown into legal limbo in December 2024, according to The Associated Press, but remains open.

Ansari requested Comer subpoena Barron for questioning under oath. The first-term Arizona Democrat also requested subpoenas of the White House, Justice Department and State Department for records regarding Andrew and Tristan Tate, including communications with Romanian or British officials.

“I said what I said. Investigate Barron,” Ansari wrote on X on Thursday.

The Tate Brothers’ lawyer, New York attorney Joe McBride, responded by writing, “If Andrew Tate were free, he would be dismantling this communist psychopath in real time and raising an army to unseat her for going after Barron Trump.”

“The Tate Bros are one of the most powerful weapons the conservative movement has,” McBride wrote on X. “Their absence is the point. FREE THEM.”

McBride has alleged the brothers’ arrest by federal law enforcement in Miami was “politically motivated” by unspecified enemies of the Tates. He has also denied the Times’ reporting about Barron’s relationship with the Tates, calling it “fake news.”

While in the Philippines this week, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, “I don’t know the details of this specific case,” but that the State Department had “no role for us to play in this moment or maybe ever in that regard.”

On Thursday, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the administration has “no” plans to get involved on the Tate brothers’ behalf.

The brothers returned to the U.S. in 2025 after facing charges in the U.K.

A November 2025 report from ProPublica claimed that Paul Ingrassia, a White House liaison to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), intervened to help the brothers.

Their electronic devices were taken away upon their entry into the U.S. Ingrassia told senior DHS staffers that the devices should be returned, which they were.

The morning the Tate brothers were arrested, Ingrassia — now the acting general counsel of the General Services Administration — wrote on X that “politically driven prosecutions based on one’s personal beliefs are completely antithetical to a democratic society.”

Arizona Rep. Abe Hamadeh, a first-term Republican, also objected to the Tate brothers’ arrest on Sunday, July 20.

“Political lawfare is dangerous,” the congressman wrote on X. “The rule of law still matters and it is our responsibility to uphold the integrity of the justice system.”
