Tulsi Gabbard, now serving as Director of National Intelligence, has ignited a political firestorm by declassifying internal Obama-era intelligence memos that shed light on a coordinated effort to manufacture the infamous Russia collusion narrative in 2016.
Her bold move validates what many on the right have alleged for years: the intelligence community was weaponized to undermine Donald Trump’s presidency from the start.
The released documents show that then-DNI James Clapper, under directive from Barack Obama, pushed to unify the intelligence community’s position that Russia interfered in the 2016 election to benefit Trump.
In the process, Clapper admitted this “compromised” the agencies’ normal operations.
He told colleagues they needed to “compromise on our ‘normal’ modalities” to push out the Obama administration’s assessment before Trump took office.
One declassified email reveals an NSA analyst warning that there wasn’t enough time to verify key claims in the rushed report.
Former NSA Director Mike Rogers expressed concern that the assessment lacked the scrutiny normally required for such high-level conclusions.
Despite these internal warnings, Clapper pushed forward. He described the effort as a “team sport,” signaling that loyalty to the narrative outweighed factual integrity.
Tulsi Gabbard has formally referred the documents to the Department of Justice for criminal investigation. She called it “a clear example of political interference with national intelligence to serve a partisan agenda.”
“This wasn’t about protecting America,” Gabbard said in a press conference. “It was about kneecapping Donald Trump before he could even take office.”
Media allies of the establishment were quick to attempt damage control. The Associated Press reviewed the documents and claimed they don’t “prove” political manipulation.
Yet the AP admitted the memos are real and that they show intelligence officials expressing doubts.
The core revelation is that the intelligence assessment lacked consensus and was pushed forward despite internal objections. This flies in the face of years of media claims that the intelligence community was unanimous and unbiased.
Clapper himself has offered no detailed rebuttal. Instead, he repeated the original narrative and deflected criticism. Barack Obama has remained silent.
Republican lawmakers are demanding hearings. Senator J.D. Vance called the disclosures “proof of an attempted coup.”
Rep. Jim Jordan has vowed to subpoena Clapper and others named in the memos.
Grassroots conservatives hailed Gabbard’s decision as a brave act of patriotism. “She told the truth when it mattered,” said Donald Trump Jr. “This is how you hold the deep state accountable.”
Trending hashtags like #ObamaGate and #ClapperCoup quickly surged on social media as Americans digested the implications.
What was once dismissed as a conspiracy theory is now backed by primary documents from within the intelligence bureaucracy.
The declassified emails show this was not a mere misunderstanding. It was a deliberate attempt to craft a political weapon against Trump using the power of the intelligence community.
